Major Accomplishments:
Carol Stiles began her teaching and research position at the University of Florida, Department of Plant Pathology, January 1, 2001. Prior to this appointment, she taught courses in biology (Mycology, Botany, Microbiology, and Introductory Biology) for 3.5 years at Valdosta State University in Valdosta, Georgia. She has worked with a number of different plant pathogens throughout her career. She was a post-doctoral research associate at Rutgers University Blueberry and Cranberry Research and Extension Center near Chatsworth, NJ, for two years, where she worked on the biology of cranberry fruit rot fungi. Her Ph.D. graduate work focused on Cephalosporium stripe of winter wheat in Washington State, while her Master's thesis involved the interactions of fungi, soybeans, and the soybean cyst nematode. She obtained plant pathology experience as an undergraduate student at South Dakota State University, where she worked with soybean root and stem fungal pathogens, and also worked in the Plant Disease Clinic for two summers.
