Epidemiology

Performing epidemiological investigations on several pathosystems, Florida researchers have made a significant impact on many areas of plant pathology. The Plant Pathology Department's program in epidemiology is all-encompassing, with research opportunities in disease assessment, host resistance, dispersal of pathogens, and in forecasting, prediction, and control of disease. Emphasis is most often placed on the quantitative aspects of epidemiology: analysis of the intensification of disease in time and space, spatial distribution of pathogens and disease, crop loss, and modeling and simulation. A diverse array of pathosystems is available for research in monocyclic and polycyclic epidemics.
