Inclusions of Cucumber Mosaic Cucumovirus (CMV)

CMV inclusions are not uniformly distributed and depending on the host can be found in epidermal cells(2,4), stomata cells (1) and the mesophyll (3,6 ). While they stain in both OG and azure A, they are more easily detected with azure A, especially in the mesophyll. The classical and diagnostic shape of CMV is a hexagonal crystal with an empty inner space (4) but it can also form large aggregates of virus particles (5,6).

1) CMV inclusions in stomata cells of Commelina diffusa

2.) CMV inclusions in epidermal cells of Petunia x hybrida

3.) CMV inclusion in in the mesophyll of Nicotiana spp.

4.) CMV inclusion in the epidermis of Capsicum annum
