Bacterial soft rot of adam's needle
Sep 14, 2012 6:59 AM
Bacterial causal agent: Erwinia carotovora
Symptoms: Soft rotting starts at the base of the stem and water soaking can be seen on the margin of the leaves leading to severe blighting. The plants have an unpleasant smell unique of infection from Erwinia sp.
Management: Choose clean and healthy cuttings for plantings to avoid introduction of the bacterial inoculum. Avoid conditions of high moisture on leaves for long durations as it favors disease occurrence and spread. Bactericides may be effective in reducing inoculum load, but cultural practices and sanitation is the key to successful production.
