Phyllosticta causes circular leaf spots with brown/reddish borders. The spots can be really large covering a large area of the leaf.
Initial symptom include small blotchy brown or spots on the leaves.
The lesions may enlarge to cause a ring-like pattern.
Fungal fruiting bodies (pycnidia) can be produced in these spots. Pycnidia are light to dark brown in color and are partially embedded in the plant tissue.
Spores are extruded through an opening (ostiole) at the top of the pycnidium. Spores come out as they are compressed and extruded through the pycnidia’s ostiole.
